Downstream of downstream processing

A new area of research at the ITV is the development of innovative, efficient process and material concepts for downstream processing.

Strict regulatory requirements, higher quality standards and price controls for pharmaceuticals are forcing pharmaceutical producers to rethink their production methods and design.

The downstream processing of biomolecules, such as recombinant protein and antibody purifications as well as isomer and enantiomer separations from fine chemicals and the pharmaceutical industry and their wastewater are being investigated with the aim of testing the use of disposables and the recycling of excipients from white, red, green and grey biotechnology in downstream processing and developing production methods to realize the optimization potential of pharmaceutical and fine chemical production.
